SPIEF 2024 Urban Hub Programme Published

The Urban Hub area will return to SPIEF 2024. As part of the thematic platform, experts will discuss the research development and business co-operation in the field of urbanism.

“Russia aims to develop innovative and sustainable urban environments that will not only improve the quality of life of our citizens, but also become an engine of economic progress. The goal of our work is to bring together all stakeholders to develop strategies that promote urban infrastructure development, that reflect high ambitions and national interests,” noted Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the SPIEF Organizing Committee.

This year’s Urban Hub business programme is focused on three key tracks: regions and cities of the future, renovation and low-rise buildings, investment and artificial intelligence.

In the first track, participants will discuss not only futuristic concepts of urban development, but also concrete strategies for the application of advanced technologies and the creation of innovative urban spaces that promote sustainable development and improve the quality of life.

The renovation and low-rise buildings track will highlight plans to modernize existing urban facilities, including infrastructure and buildings. The issues of creating low-rise residential complexes aimed at creating a comfortable and attractive urban environment will also be raised.

The third track focuses on investments and artificial intelligence. It will reveal the role of financial investments in urban development. Participants will be able to discuss how artificial intelligence can be used to effectively manage urban resources, optimize infrastructure and improve the level of service for citizens.

“SPIEF annually becomes the main platform for discussing the most important socio-economic topics, resulting in the launch of new projects and the formation of applied solutions. Such thematic spaces as Urban Hub are very important for the construction industry and housing and utilities services, which lead to concrete solutions, demonstrate new opportunities and ultimately lead to the economic development of the regions, help to shape the environment taking into account the needs of our citizens, and preserve the rich cultural heritage. Our main task is to improve the quality of life of people in the Russian Federation, and developers and architects play one of the most important roles in this matter,” emphasized Irek Faizullin, Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation.

Also, as part of the main business programme of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), a session entitled “City of the Future: Masterfully Planned – Built for the Ages” will be held, dedicated to a large-scale programme to develop master plans for 200 Russian cities. The session will address the issues of establishing unified requirements to the document of strategic development of the territory, mechanisms for attracting extra-budgetary funds, as well as the issues of priorities in the development of master plans.

Urban Hub is a project of the Roscongress Foundation, an international discussion platform dedicated to the development of research and business cooperation in urbanism. The international partnership is based on the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN New Urban Agenda and is designed to become an intellectual hub for breakthrough ideas of urban economy. The platform was opened at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2023.
